'The Last Word' - Chris Shiflett
Kerrang!

Kerrang! November 2008 WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU WERE DRUNK?
"I can pinpoint that exactly - it was in Osaka, Japan, and it was on December 6, 2006. It was the last show of the last tour for the [Foo's] In Your Honour record, and I came home from that and started eating my Wheaties and going jogging, and I got on a whole healthier kick."

WHAT WAS THE LAST LIE YOU TOLD?
"I'm sure I must have told a lie to my wife as I was leaving to go on tour this morning and it was probably something to the effect of, 'Oh honey, this tour's not gonna cost us anything!'."

WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU LOST SOMETHING IMPORTANT?
"I lost my favourite pair of earplugs the other night, and they were expensive custom made ones, so now I have to go to the ear doctor and get that gooey pink shit jammed in my ears to get new moulds made. I think I probably spent the first 20 years of being in a band not wearing earplugs, so the damage is probably done, but five or six years ago I started wearing them. And now when I don't have them, I can't believe how loud it is!"

WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU WERE IN A FIGHT?
"Well, I used to box a lot, but I haven't really done that in years, and I think the last time I sparred was well over a year ago. I love boxing, but I'm just gone all the time, so I never get to do it any more. I guess I can take a punch, but it's not the shots to the head that get you, it's the shots to the liver - getting hit anywhere never makes you feel good whatever, but after you get punched a couple of times in the liver it feels bad."

WHAT WAS THE LAST BOOK YOU READ?
"I just read the book The Wrecking Crew by Thomas Frank. The subtitle is How Conservatives Rule, so you can pretty much guess that it's all about the damage that's been done to our governmental infrastructure in the United States for the last 30 years or so. It's a really good book."

WHERE WAS YOUR LAST HOLIDAY?
"It was in Ketchum, Idaho. We have some friends who have a place up there, and our family went with their family and we just hung out at the lake, and fished and had fun together, and it was very relaxing. I like to take chilled out vacations - and my cell phone didn't even work whilst we were there, which was great!"

WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE YOUR LAST MEAL ON EARTH TO BE?
"I'd go with sushi, probably at the restaurant Nobu. I'm a big sushi fan, I like spicy tuna rolls, I like sashimi, and the emperor shrimp. I'm not much for the weird shit, unless I'm in Japan, where I'll try something wacky. But for the last meal we'll keep things simple."
