Do You Download?

Kerrang! 2004

Chris Shiflett, Foo Fighters/Jackson United

"I never been much of a downloader myself. I grew up buying vinyl albums. But if I were a kid I'd probably download stuff if it were available. I guess that's the future of getting new music. But, as a musician, you want to get paid for what you do. I think the music industry is going about embracing the technology the wrong way. And it shows. The major record labels are all collapsing into one another and record sales suck. People aren't going to stop downloading, but the industry needs to stop running from it and trying to criminalise people for it. Kids are smart and will figure out new ways of getting music.
